This paper is intended as a reflection on the concept of the sacred in the works of Elémire Zolla. An analysis of his works suggests that sacrality is concealed throughout the history of mankind. The responsibility for such occultation lies with modern life and its triumphant embrace of materialism, of equality; of quantity over quality; of the mass-produced average man incapable of rising to metaphysical heights: the Tradition of that Perennial Philosophy which provides true contact with the numinous ciphers of being.
