Subject of this study are the Essays of Montaigne. The author analyzes the work in question by examining the particular type of writing of Montaigne and the architecture of the Essays in the light of the reflections of Michel Butor. The conclusions aim to define an anthropology profoundly different from that which will become dominant during the ‘600 with the Cartesian philosophy.
